Carlos was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1988. His parents wereoriginally from Falcon, a coastal state in the west of Venezuela, and becauseof this he spent a lot of time travelling to this and other locations of the Caribbean.He always felt an attraction to nature, biology, adventure and the rurallifestyle. In 2012 Carlos achieved his bachelors degree in Biology (UniversidadSimon Bolivar) specialising in Marine Ecology (with a focus on the invasiveLionfish for his research project). In 2014, he moved to Spain and in 2015 finishedhis masters degree in Biodiversity Management (Universidad de Murcia). Carlos has10 years of experience as a biologist, with experience in both, academic andcommercial fields. He has held multiple positions including: researcher,faculty staff for teaching, laboratory and field work assistant, and technicianfor the elaboration and management of projects. He is currently settled in theUK, where he keeps himself active as a Volunteer Researcher for the Instituteof Marine Sciences (University of Portsmouth), in addition to pushing other personalprojects derived from his MSc studies.
Carlos is a follower of the principles of survival,adaptation and self-preservation. For this reason, combat arts and subaquaticsports are between his favourite activities. Despite having several experiencesas a kid, it is in 2009 when he made a very important move: joining theSubaquatic club of his University (CESUSIBO). There he became an advanced ScubaDiver with multiple specialities, and a Freediver under the eye of Antonio DelDuca. In CESUSIBO Carlos was equipment room manager, president of the directiveboard, and member of the disciplinary committee. Here Carlos gatheredexperience coordinating SCUBA and freediving courses, organizing events, excursions,and other tasks related the different activities that were part of CESUSIBO’sagenda. It was during this phase where he established a good relationship withAntonio Del Duca, whilst in charge of coordinating multiple courses andactivities with FGC, as well as sharing ocean training sessions and recreationalactivities.
In 2018 Carlos finished his training to becomean Apnea Instructor for the FGC School. Their main objective is to bring theFGC School to new international borders, especially the European ones, andstart teaching courses in English to spread the FGC word.
